I am Hannelie Roodt, a registered nurse and midwife with 24 years of experience both inside and outside the hospital setting. Sixteen years ago, I attended my first homebirth, and by choice, I will never look back. I am a mother of four beautiful children, two of whom were born at home. (With my first two, I was in a hospital and didn't even realize homebirth was an option!)

From the very first moment I witnessed a birth, I fell in love with midwifery. My journey as a student midwife wasn't always a walk in the park, and seeing how women were sometimes treated fueled a deep longing in me to see mothers cared for with absolute dignity, autonomy, and respect.

I love being a homebirth midwife because every birth is entirely unique. For me, this is not just a job—it is a calling, a passion, and a lifestyle. I love the people I meet, and the beautiful balance of calmness and excitement that surrounds a new life. It is my absolute privilege to uplift women and to be an instrument in God’s hands, honoring His miracle and witnessing love in action exactly as it is described in His Word.

To see a mother’s glowing face, the overwhelming happiness, and yes, even the tears, is a gift. Being a midwife means holding the most sacred emotions in my hands—holding them with gentleness and protecting them at all times, ensuring the birth space remains safe, peaceful, and undisturbed until the time is right.
